allotted for reflection & development of implementation plan for a
new lesson, unit, or collaboration within curriculum.

Project/Course Description (goals & objectives included): Today educators face many challenges as they work to prepare students understand the rights of human beings around the world. Knowledge of this will allow students to function effectively as citizens of a global community. One of the goals of this conference and course is to provide participants the tools to meet this challenge. Participants will actively engage in sessions that provide new methodology, ideas, and concepts that will inspire change within their classrooms that will assist their students in become more effective global citizens. Participants will use this newly acquired knowledge to develop a new lesson related to the conference theme.

- Registration for WCSS Conference (2 days)
- Attendance at:
- Keynote Session Dr. H. Michael Hartoonian, past NCSS President & former Social Studies Consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
- Keynote Session Da Chen, author of Colors of the Mountain, an memoir of growing up during the Cultural Revolution in China
- 8 sessions of presentations at conference (or the equivalent in double sessions)
- Completion of:
- Detailed reflection (format will be given at the completion of the conference) on sessions attended and how attendance at these sessions will impact the participant’s classroom and assist in developing students into more effective global citizens
- Detailed new lesson plan to be included in participant’s curriculum based on the knowledge gained from the conference as a whole or from a session attended as part of the conference. Format for lesson plan will be distributed at the conference.
Submission deadline for work is May 1, 2012.
Instructional Methods: The top quality presenters at the conference will utilize a wide variety of strategies in the various sessions at the conference. Among these will be: lecture, discussion, and hands-on activities. The methodology each participant will experience will vary depending on sessions selected.

- Detailed reflection on sessions attended and how attendance at these sessions will impact the teacher’s classroom and assist in developing students into more effective global citizens
