You are invited to the joint Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies (WCSS) and International Education (IEC) Annual Conference, 16 - 17 March 2009 at the Marriott West in Madison, Wisconsin. The WCSS and the IEC have joined forces to enhance the diversity of session topics and participants. Built around the theme of Global Challenges and Changes , the Conference offers stimulating sessions, thought-provoking keynote speakers, a full Tuesday afternoon of 2½ - hour workshops that focus on teaching social studies and international and global education.

For WCSS the partnership with IEC will strengthen the international and global dimensions of the conference. For the IEC the partnership will assure access to not only highly qualified teachers but the breadth of the social studies curriculum. Workshops will seek to actively engage K-12 teachers in curriculum development and instructional improvement especially in international and global education. Several strands of the conference sessions will address the Wisconsin Standards for Teacher Development and Licensure (PI34) and the pedagogical knowledge and skills for effective teaching. Finally, the conference will offer sessions and workshops in the sciences, arts, and humanities that are linked to the social studies and international/global education.

The conference seeks presentation proposals from teachers and other educators that will lead to curriculum changes, lesson plan development, and instructional improvement. Registration includes continental breakfasts, plated lunches, refreshments, free parking, exhibits, membership in the WCSS, and an opportunity to network with professional colleagues and friends (Register early by March 1).

The 2009 conference will be held Monday & Tuesday, 16 - 17 March 2009 at the Marriott–Madison West Hotel, 1313 John Q. Hammonds Dr., Middleton, Wis.
